Broodwing Birds Guide: Playable Species, Roles, and Nesting Tips
Which birds can you play in Broodwing? Bald eagle, raven, goose, mallard, and barn owl roles, food, and nest survival tips.
Broodwing is a Roblox bird survival and roleplay game from Realistics Studios, the studio behind Village Survival. You play as a wild bird, fly across a valley, gather food, build a nest, lay eggs, and raise chicks with other players. The playable lineup is still changing, so treat species roles as playstyle guides rather than fixed balance.
Playable birds and how they differ
Launch-week gameplay videos show these birds as playable:
| Bird | Role | How it finds food |
|---|---|---|
| Bald Eagle | Predator | Hunts meat (rabbits, other birds); cannot graze |
| Raven | Scavenger | Grazes on the ground; also collects nest materials |
| Goose | Grazer | Grazes on grass and ground food |
| Mallard | Dabbler | Feeds on cattails and water-edge plants |
| Barn Owl | Night hunter (added in late October 2026) | Hunts mice, a new AI prey animal added with the owl |
A few naming cautions:
- Goose naming: the launch video calls it a greylag goose, and later in the same video it is called a Canadian goose. Check the in-game bird menu for the current name.
- Gosling is the label for a goose egg or baby, not a separate playable bird.
- Cuckoo is not confirmed playable. No gameplay footage shows it, and a launch-week player said they hoped a brood-parasite bird would be added someday. Don't plan a run around it.
- Swans are announced as coming soon by Realistics Studios on TikTok. A Leucistic Black Swan gamepass exists but is not on sale yet, so don't expect to play one now.
Bald Eagle details
The eagle is the game's pure predator. It cannot forage on the ground, so every meal comes from a hunt. In footage, an adult eagle hunted hares and waterfowl, and a hare corpse stayed edible for roughly two and a half minutes after the kill. Eagles can also grab and kill ravens and other birds mid-air.
Two practical notes from community play:
- An adult male eagle can be invited into a family pack, and pack members can help hunt.
- Eagles have an extra growth stage. Most birds go from chick to subadult, but the eagle passes through a fledgling stage and then a juvenile stage before adulthood.
Nest building: materials and site choice
Nesting runs in stages. A typical raven run needed eight sticks first, then moss, dry grass, and down feathers. A few things that make it easier:
- Watch the nesting-stage indicator. It shows the distance to the nearest required material and shrinks as you get closer.
- Grab later-stage materials early. Moss and down feathers are harder to find, so pick them up whenever you pass them.
- You must land to collect. You can't grab sticks in flight.
- Not every tree works. Look for a spot where several thick branches meet the trunk.
For site choice, balance food access, cover, and escape routes. Community players add two cautions: awkward nest spots make landing hard for you and for predators, but also risk you missing a landing while chicks starve; and water-adjacent nests are convenient for food but sit near geese, which can threaten chicks.
Eggs and raising chicks
- Egg count is capped and gated by hunger. One raven run laid five eggs total, with a cooldown between eggs and a food cost each time.
- You can tell player eggs from NPC eggs by the name. Player eggs show a username; NPC eggs show labels like "egg one" or "gosling one."
- Players can join as your baby after hatching, and an NPC chick can be replaced by a player later.
- Chicks beg for food, and feeding them consumes your own food. Plan a loop of eat, fly back, feed, repeat.
- Keep eggs and chicks warm. One player nearly lost eggs while struggling to land on the nest in time.
- Chicks grow into subadults and then fly off and despawn. Expect to raise a brood and see them leave.
Survival tips
- Ravens are the least-picked bird. In one session, no players wanted to hatch as a raven. That makes raven runs quiet but also means fewer players to help defend.
- Eagles are the main threat. Ravens and smaller birds should avoid eagle territory, and hiding in cattails or flying downriver near waterfalls was suggested as a way to break pursuit.
- Geese can be aggressive. Some ignore you; others attack. Don't assume a goose is safe.
- No scent system. Finding prey as an eagle relies on sight and sound, so scan from the air.
- Flight practice matters. Takeoff, steering, and landing are the skills that decide whether you can feed a nest in time.
