Broodwing Barn Owl Guide: Eggs, Mice, Skins and Codes

How to play the Barn Owl in Broodwing: claim a cedar hollow, lay eggs, hunt mice, feed owlets, and grab the barnowl code for 1,000 Plumes.

The Barn Owl joined Broodwing in late October 2026 as a playable bird that nests in western red cedar hollows, hunts mice, and raises owlets. To start, claim a hollow, lay up to four eggs, then hunt mice and feed your chicks before ravens or eagles get to them.

How the Barn Owl plays

The Barn Owl's loop is a family loop: find a hollow, lay eggs, and keep the nest fed. Per the developer's in-game update notes shown in Congo's Barn Owl update video, barn owls hunt mice, use night vision to spot nearby mice, and can screech and strike with their talents. Mice are new AI animals in the game.

You can play as an adult owl, an egg, or an owlet. As a chick you can beg your parent for food; as a parent you're the one doing the feeding.

Claiming a hollow and laying eggs

  1. Find a hollow in a western red cedar. The video host found one quickly, but noted that hollows with sticks in front look better guarded than bare ones.
  2. Enter the hollow and claim it. The host first tried the wrong key, then confirmed the prompt to claim the hollow works with T (hold it down). Treat the exact key as a prompt to read on screen rather than a fixed rule.
  3. Lay eggs. In the video, the host laid four eggs total and could not exceed that. Each egg took a few minutes to hatch (about 3 minutes 20 seconds for the first).
  4. Laying an egg costs hunger, so eat before you start a clutch.

For the egg-laying flow in more detail, see how to lay eggs in Broodwing.

Hunting mice and feeding owlets

Mice spawn close to the ground and, in the host's run, right next to his tree. He described the hunt as easy, with a mild aim assist that helps when you get close. A mouse doesn't fill much hunger on its own.

To feed a chick, hold E and pick which owlet gets the mouse. The host fed the human-played chicks and skipped the AI ones. If you're the chick instead, wait for a parent to bring food; the video shows a chick going hungry when its parent didn't return.

Nest defense: ravens and eagles

Ravens can kill your chicks. In the video, a raven got into the host's hollow and killed one owlet while he was away hunting. Eagles also circle nests, so stay close during hatch windows and chase intruders off. The update notes say to watch out for eagles and to fight ravens that come near your home.

The update added three Barn Owl variants. Official Roblox pricing checked November 1, 2026:

The code barnowl grants 1,000 Plumes, according to the developer's update notes shown in the video. Enter it under Codes in the top-left of the screen. FAQ

Can I lay more than four eggs? In the recorded run, four was the cap. Don't count on more without checking the current build.

Why did my chick die while I was hunting? Ravens can enter hollows and kill owlets. Feed quickly and return to the nest often.

Is the Barn Owl free to play? Yes. The default owl is free; only the leucistic and melanistic skins cost Robux.
